Vote won in the House of Lords

Two weeks ago, the House of Lords voted the community energy-enabling amendments into the Energy Bill. This was a great stride forward for the campaign. The vote meant that the legislation we are calling for to enable community renewable energy is now in the Government’s Energy Bill as clauses 272 and 273.

The Energy Bill next moves to the House of Commons. Our task is to make sure that clauses 272 and 273 stay in it.

To recap, these clauses are based on our Local Electricity Bill, which would enable nationwide growth in community energy schemes by allowing them to sell their clean power to local people.

Government Ministers keep saying they want more community energy, but still do not support these clauses, nor have they offered any workable alternatives. We must act together to make them walk the talk by keeping these clauses in the Energy Bill. To do so, we need to rally supportive MPs from all parties to speak in favour of them at the first opportunity: the Bill’s Second Reading on the 9th May.

Together we can transform things.
