Power for People is a not-for-profit organisation, campaigning for the UK to rapidly transition to 100% clean energy and for local communities to benefit from this great transition. Our current campaigns are for Clean Community Energy and Onshore Wind.

The Problem: Community-scale renewable energy is being blocked by unfair regulations and hugely disproportionate costs. So lots of renewables that could and should be being built are not.

The Solution: Power for People have drafted The Local Electricity Bill. If made law it would give community-scale renewable energy a massive boost by enabling local generators to sell their energy to local people.

Our Campaign: We need MPs to support the Local Electricity Bill. Our efforts so far have brought a cross-party group of 115 MPs on board. Many more supportive MPs are needed and to achieve this we need your help.

It is currently impossible to buy energy from renewable resources local to you. Or, put the other way around, local renewable energy generators cannot sell their energy to local people. The blockage exists because of energy market rules and wildly disproportionate setup costs associated with becoming a licenced energy supplier. This is massively hindering our urgently needed transition to 100% renewable energy and preventing local communities benefiting from new local renewables projects.

Power for People have drafted the Local Electricity Bill which, if made law, would enable local renewable energy generators to sell their energy to local people by making the costs and bureaucracy involved in doing so proportionate. This will give a massive boost to unrealised community renewable energy projects across the country by making them financially viable.

The Bill is currently supported by a cross-party group of 115 MPs. It needs the support of many more in order for it to become law – to achieve this we need your help.

The Problem: The UK government has placed a moratorium on new onshore wind projects in England and is blocking UK onshore wind energy from competing for vital state financing.

The Solution: Planning regulations need to be changed to remove the moratorium in England and onshore wind technology needs to be allowed to compete for state financing.

Our Campaign: Power for People has drafted the changes needed and we are organising an open, cross-party letter from MPs to the government which 144 MPs have signed so far. Many more supportive MPs are needed and to achieve this we need your help.

The UK government is blocking onshore wind energy even though it is cheap, clean and overwhelmingly popular. In 2015 the government placed a moratorium on any new onshore wind project in England and the government is preventing onshore wind energy from competing for state financing contracts, despite all other forms low-carbon and renewable energy generation being able to do so.

Power for People has drafted the changes needed to remove these two fundamental blockages and is campaigning for the government to implement them. To achieve this, Power for People are organising an open, cross-party letter from MPs to the Prime Minister which, currently, 144 MPs have signed. Many more MPs signatures are needed if we are to convince the government – to achieve this we need your help.

Power for People needs you! Our campaigns will only succeed if many people get involved and take action. It’s all about strength in numbers and working together to achieve a common goal. We know this works because of the many successful campaigns for environmental and social change that have been won through mass grass-roots action.
