OUR SUCCESSES
Our aim is to see the UK rapidly transition to 100% clean energy and for this to benefit local communities. These are the successes we have had along the way.
2024, July
The second ask of our Onshore Wind campaign is achieved by the Government removing the effective ban on new onshore wind energy projects via an amendment to the planning rules. This, combined with the first ask being achieved in 2020, means the campaign is an overall success.
2023, September
Further in response to our Community Energy Revolution campaign gaining support for the Local Electricity Bill from 326 MPs, the Government promise to
conduct a formal call for evidence on the barriers to community energy, which was run from 8th April to 30th June 2024; read our submission to it here, and
to publish an annual report to Parliament on progress on removing these barriers.
2023, August
In response to our Community Energy Revolution campaign gaining support for the Local Electricity Bill from 326 MPs, the Government introduce a new £10 million Community Energy Fund, details here.
2018 to 2023 – A twenty-one fold increase in Parliamentary profile
Across 2018, before our Community Energy Revolution campaign began, community energy was mentioned 5 times in the House of Commons and House of Lords. In 2023, as a result of our public advocacy organising, this had increased to 106 times.
2020, March
In response to our work with climate charity Possible, the Government make one of the two changes we have been calling for in our Onshore Wind campaign: granting onshore wind installations access to their Contracts for Difference Scheme.
