Ways to help the Local Electricity Bill become law

Grassroots action works

Before the 2024 general election, nearly half of the House of Commons backed the Local Electricity Bill. This was due to the advocacy efforts of individuals and organisations from across the country. We now need to bring more of the new MPs on board and encourage supportive MPs to promote the Bill in Parliament. Please help by taking the actions below.

1) Write to Your MP

This is the most important action you can take to help the campaign. Please ask your MP to write to the Energy Minister, asking him to include community energy in the Great British Energy Bill. If you need some advice on what to say in your email or letter, please get in touch.

2) Visit Your MP

Visiting your MP, either virtually or physically, is a hugely effective way of convincing them to take action. Our experienced campaigners will support and guide you through the process of organising a visit or help you join one that has been organised by others in your constituency.

3) Write to Your Local Paper

Press coverage benefits the campaign and will be noticed by your MP, council and community groups. Please write to a local paper to explain in your own words why the Local Electricity Bill is needed. Our friends at Possible wrote this article with some great tips. We have drafted an email to get you started.

4) Recruit Your Local Group

Are you a member of a local group or organisation like a Transition Town, Women’s Institute, Wildlife Trust or Chamber of Commerce? If so then please ask your group to join our supportive coalition for the Local Electricity Bill.

5) Recruit Friends and Family

The campaign for the Local Electricity Bill will only succeed if many people get involved and take action. Please ask friends, family, neighbours and colleagues to join our movement. Click the link below to send your friends and family and email.
