Many communities in villages, towns and cities across the country want to build new renewable generation and then sell the electricity it produces to local people. However current energy market and licensing rules make this impossible.
The UK has exceptional renewables potential, with some of the best wind resources in Europe. However, renewables investment in the UK is collapsing, falling 10% in 2016 and 56% in 2017, largely due to unfavourable government policies.
Power for People aims to reverse this. We are campaigning for the Local Energy Bill to be made law. This would make new community-scale renewable energy projects viable and ensure that local communities and their local economies benefited from the transition of our energy system to one that is clean and local.
